Deny Your Worldview.

Deny Your Worldview.

By asking a Christian to set aside the Bible and use some other starting point before he is even allowed to discuss creation, a group is already demanding that he deny Christianity up front. That is not an honest discussion. That is a rule that requires the Christian to abandon the only starting point that determines his entire worldview before the conversation begins. I saw this happen in a Facebook group called @Creationism . Someone asked what it would take for a Christian to prove creationism and what it would take to disprove it. The straightforward answer is the Bible, and disproving the Bible. Pointing out that the Bible is a different starting point from their so-called neutral evidences got me banned and blocked. The group’s rules effectively say you must use their epistemology, not yours, to participate. That is either a cruel and deceptive way to force Christians to deny their faith before they open their mouths, or it is people so confused about epistemology that they do not realize what they are demanding. Either way, Christians should see the trick for what it is.

They act like they want honest debate. They do not. Honest debate lets each side use its own starting point and then tests which one can actually produce knowledge. These rules do the opposite. They deny the Christian the ability to use his epistemology and demand that he use theirs just to be allowed in the room. That means the Christian must deny his worldview at the door. He must pretend the Bible is not his first principle before he is permitted to say anything about creation. That is not neutrality. That is a pre-loaded demand that the Christian switch systems. Jesus Christ means everything to me. I am not going to deny Him to satisfy a group’s rules. You cannot make me do it unless you first prove that your alternative starting point actually produces knowledge. That is the entire point.

Imagine the opposite. Suppose I started a Facebook group also called Creationism. I displayed it as an open public place for all different philosophies to argue for their position in honest debate. Then the rules stated that you can only defend creation or non-creation by using the Bible as your only starting point for knowledge. No opposing worldview would accept that. They would correctly refuse, because it forces them to abandon their own starting point before they are even allowed to speak. That is exactly what this group does in reverse. Their rules say the same thing against Christianity: abandon your starting point and use ours, or you cannot participate. They pretend the arrangement is fair and open. It is not. It is a one-way demand that only one side keep its epistemology while the other side is required to surrender his at the door.

The fact that this is not obvious shows that the people running such groups have no concept of what epistemology is, no matter how educated they appear. Non-Christians, the more educated they are and the more books they read, become better at deceiving themselves. They do not become more intelligent. They do not become more informed. They become better at knowing that they have a confident feeling about something. They are better at deceiving themselves. They are better at feeling confident, but they have no justification. They have no argument that their epistemology yields knowledge and intelligibility. They just go confident about it. Vincent Cheung makes the same observation in Paul and the Philosophers when he discusses probability. The scientist has never actually done a probability, because he does not have a denominator. What he has is a feeling of confidence about something. He then addresses that feeling of confidence inside a probability for which he has no justification. He is using probability the way a kid uses play-doh: something to put his feelings into a formal-looking context. He has no justified argument that the calculation produces knowledge. The education simply makes him smoother at packaging the feeling.

A starting point is not a minor preference you can set aside for a debate. It is the root that determines the entire worldview. Every true belief is either stated in that starting point or validly deduced from it. The Bible is the Christian’s only starting point. It is a closed, deductive system. Scripture uses deductive logic and declares itself the only true epistemology while declaring every rival false. If a Christian adopts a non-Christian starting point, he has already abandoned the one that determines his view of everything. He is no longer operating as a Christian. He has switched systems. That is not a temporary move “for the sake of argument.” It is a denial of the faith before the conversation even begins. No Christian who understands his own starting point will accept that demand.

That is exactly how stupid this request is. It is the very thing we disagree about. The Christian’s starting point says the other one is false. Demanding that he use the other one is not neutral inquiry. It is a request that he contradict himself from the first sentence. Flip the demand and the absurdity becomes obvious. If I asked a person who relies on observation to defend his points, and I demanded that he use a non-observational method to prove the Bible wrong, he would not accept that. Observation is his starting point. Demanding he set it aside is demanding he abandon the root of his worldview. He would correctly refuse. The same logic applies here. You do not get to demand that the Christian abandon his while you keep yours. That is not how starting points work. It is how people who do not understand epistemology talk.

You have to prove that your starting point gives knowledge, meaning, and intelligibility. Otherwise you cannot even use intelligence to tell a Christian you disagree with him. When you demand a non-biblical starting point, you are assuming your starting point can justify subjects and predicates, the law of non-contradiction, identity and difference, causality, motion, time, space, meaning, and probability. You have not shown that it can. Empiricism cannot justify a single sensation with sensation. Induction cannot produce universals from particulars. Probability collapses without a justified denominator. Science borrows categories it cannot defend. Until your starting point produces these things without circularity or self-contradiction, you have nothing. You do not even have the knowledge to tell the Christian that his starting point is not a starting point. You have no right to demand that he use yours, and you have no ability to intelligibly disagree until you do.

Vincent Cheung, Systematic Theology: the Bible is the ultimate authority of the Christian system; therefore our first principle, our starting point, is the Bible itself. From that principle the system is deduced. Non-Christian principles (empiricism, induction, human speculation) make knowledge impossible and collapse into skepticism, which is self-contradictory. Oshea Davis, sections on the First Principle and Self-Authenticating Starting Point: Scripture is the exclusive public first principle. Any claim not stated in it or validly deduced from it is not knowledge. Human starting points fail the tests Scripture itself gives. Demanding a dual or non-biblical epistemology is already a rejection of the biblical one.

Christians should refuse the setup. The burden is on the group that makes the demand. Prove that your starting point gives knowledge of the preconditions of intelligibility. Prove it without borrowing from the Christian system. Until you do, you have nothing, and the rule that forces a Christian to abandon his starting point is simply a rule that he deny Christ before he is allowed to speak. That is not going to happen. Groups that pretend to host honest discussion while requiring opponents to deny their worldview at the door are not hosting honest discussion. They are running a closed shop that already decided the outcome by banning the only starting point that makes knowledge possible.

God Did Not Ask Or Consult Me

You did not ask to come into existence. Its not about you. Reality is God’s playdough, and He creates reality how He wants for His own goals. I was given the gift of existence whether I wanted it or not.

Reality is God’s Lego set, but unlike Legos, He created the stuff to build the stuff. H2O does not naturally make water; it acts like water because God decided to make it consistently behave that way. Reality is God’s arbitrary choice.

Some try to play down God’s sovereignty for various reason, but some do it because they think it hurts our ability to have faith and work miracles. This is a shame, because the bible specifically uses election and predestination as a foundation for more faith and miracles and answered prayers.

This is also true when we consider sin and righteousness.  Take for example Romans 9 and 5. We are told God chooses to love one and hate another based on His own choice and not based on the good or bad choices of the person.  God molds each person from a neutral lump of clay, for His own goals. In Romans five we read Adam fell, and thus, this fall includes God being the ultimate cause. There is no dualism in the bible. Man is responsible because man is not free, but under God sovereign control and command.

In romans 5, it says all people after Adam are born sinners, or born with a sinful mind already in them. Because God is the only cause in reality, He therefore creates every person after Adam with a sinful mind. Because we reject pantheism, then it means God caused the sinful nature, but is not sinful Himself. God is not what He creates or causes. God is not a tree, even though He creates a tree and causes it to be a tree.

The same God who created you caused you to be born as a sinner. I did not ask to be born I did not asked to be born with a pre-installed sinful mind. God did this all on His own. I was never asked or consulted.

The list of sins in my mind is irrelevant. God said He is the judge of reality, and only His on thoughts about my list of sins or obedience is the list that matters. God never asked me about this, or asked if I wanted this.  Its His Legos, its His playdough, its His program, its His story.

Same God who caused all of this is the same God who caused me to be righteous. Out of favor to me, God sent His only Son to be a propitiation for my sins. In the Father’s mind, my sinful list was transferred to Jesus’ list, and so the Father punished Jesus for having my sinful list. In addition to this Romans 5 says, in the Father’s thoughts, He considered Jesus’ righteous action to be transferred to my list, as if I did it. Because of this, my sinful nature is removed, I get born from above with God’s mind, and I rule in life with Jesus.

Just as with everything preceding this, I did not ask God to send His Son out of love for me. God did not ask me or get my permission. He just did it, because reality is His personal Lego set. He put me together. He originally put me with the bad guys, in the Lego playground He made. However, later He gave me a new Lego head and relocated me in the good-guys part of the Lego set. He did not ask or consult me about it. He did it, because He wanted to. When God gave me faith, it was when God was letting me know the good things He did for me.

The doctrine of God’s sovereignty is to bulldozer over any sense of lack and over any consciousness of sin.

It is about God, not you. When Satan or your old way of thinking wants to condemn you, or remind you of past sins, the goal is to make it all about you. The goal is to make you fight a battle on the wrong hill. The hill that matters, which will determine who wins or loses, is God’s actions, not yours.

As Romans 5 says, it is the gift of unearned favor and righteousness that makes me rule in life with Jesus. Just as the gift of existence was given to me without my asking or consent, and likewise, the gift of unmerited favor and the gift of Jesus’ righteousness was given to me without my asking or consent. It is about God’s work, not mine.  The Holy Spirit causing me to believe this is God letting me know about what He did for me. Just as the gift of existence does not come and go for me, the gift of unmerited favor and my righteous standing, and sonship, and my royal priesthood does not come and go. Just like a child pulling off a red leg piece, from a Lego man, and then replacing it with a green leg piece, God did this for me in Jesus Christ. Being righteous is my definition, my identity and my reality.  It is about Him, not me. It is about what Jesus already did for me, and what is already me and already mine.

In the sense of affirming reality and my definition, then it is about me. God has already finished the atonement and caused me to be born from above. I am already a new creation, with new definitions. I am the righteousness of God. I am what I am, by the grace of God, but I am still what I am. I am the righteousness of God. I am a royal priesthood. Jesus has given me the royal authority to heal all sickness and cast out all demons. Jesus has given me the position to boldly march into His royal throne room to ask and receive. Jesus has given me the position to sling His Name around to ask whatever I want and get it.  It is about God and not me. This reality is God’s Playdough, and this is how God has shaped and made me.

Thus we have boldness in the Day of Judgment. Because just as Jesus is, so are we in this world. God’s love is perfected in us, when we have no fear, but only faith, joy and confidence, for all the good things God has done for us.

There Is No Essential “Me” Left

To sound pious one fool quoted Romans 7 where Paul says, “in me nothing good lives,” to suggest that Christians cannot look inward to see glory, honor, righteousness and immortality.

First Paul was referring to a hypothetical typical Jew, and not to himself after being born from above. Mistaking this for Paul after being re-created in the image of Jesus Christ has caused destructive conclusions and blasphemies.

Second, their conclusion is “apart from God, there is nothing good in me.” There is a serious problem with this.  Since “my” inner man is born-from-above and the image of Jesus, and “my” mind is the Mind of Christ, then apart from God, there is no essential “me” left. My old-man is dead, and no longer my identity. This does not mean I live in pragmatic sinlessness, but that my definition and reality is spiritual, divine, and holy. Example, apart from God upholding my body into existence, with the exception of my socks, I have nothing left. The clothes on my body is not my identity or definition. And so, if God destroyed me right now, except my socks, I have nothing essential of my identity and definition left.

Likewise, Paul mentions in 1 Corinthians 3 about the fire burring away things not built upon Christ. These dead works are not part of my essential definition and new creation in Christ. Thus, they can be burnt away, and I am still fully “me” and not half of me.

If you have any essential anything that is not your identity being the nature of God and the Mind of Christ, then you are not saved.

If you have been re-created in God’s nature and the Mind of Christ and out of your belly is flowing rivers of living waters, then if you look inward, you will see glory of the image of Jesus. The only way for this not to be true, is if your identity has not been re-created in a new, heavenly reality.

Your inner-man is a new reality, your outer tent that clothes your inner-man, the flesh, and its attraction to empiricism/emotions is not your essential reality. It is secondary, dead, and wasting away. To define “yourself” by the old-man as your essential identity is to define “you” as the old-man, and thus “you” cannot be a new reality in Christ.

To glorify God for the power of the gospel, you must look inward and see “you” as a new divine creature, a superior species, a child of God, being birthed with His nature as your nature. You cannot diminish this reality without destroying the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The gospel is not too good to be true. It is very believable because God says it true, and God is trustworthy. Satan and the old-man are liars. God tells you the truth. He tells you correct definitions about reality. Emotions are a lair. God describes reality as it truly is.
